About Us

Born in Quezon City (Manila), Philippines, Randy’s journey has taken him across continents and cultures. His family moved to Toronto (Woodstock), Canada in 1968, then to Astoria, Queens, New York City in 1970, before finally settling in Tampa, Florida in 1973. Decades later, in 2021, Randy made another life-changing move to Paris, Michigan—where his musical story would find a powerful new chapter.

From an early age, Randy was surrounded by music. His father’s influence and the timeless sounds of Nat King Cole, Frank Sinatra, Glen Miller, and Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass left a lasting imprint. Classical music, Big Band jazz, and Broadway musicals also shaped his foundation—styles that thrived in the Philippines, where American culture carried deep influence. Alongside these, the rise of the Beatles and Elvis Presley gave him a modern soundtrack that would broaden his world. The arrival of FM radio in the 1970s expanded his palette even further, opening his ears to new genres and possibilities.

In Tampa, Randy’s formal training began. He studied classical piano at age 10, picked up trumpet at 12, and quickly excelled. His dedication earned him 1st Chair in Concert Band, Stage (Jazz) Band, and Marching Band, before ultimately leading his peers as Drum Major in his senior year. These formative experiences gave him both technical mastery and stage confidence that would shape his musical path.

The black-and-white keys became his lifelong anchor. By the 1980s, Randy dove into the world of synthesizers, adding the warmth of a Fender Rhodes and the cutting-edge tones of the Yamaha DX7 to his arsenal. With these instruments, he began jamming with friends and playing gigs, and in 1985 secured a spot with Blanco, a well-known Top 40 cover band in the Tampa Bay area. Until 1988, he shared the stage with the group, collecting countless memories and stories that remain highlights of his early career.

Life eventually pulled him in different directions, and Randy stepped away from performing—what he calls returning to “civilian life.” Yet the music never left him. By 2015, he was back to playing on a smaller scale, reconnecting with the joy of his instruments. When he relocated to Paris, Michigan in 2021, the spark reignited. With new gear and a renewed hunger to collaborate, he sought out fellow musicians to create something fresh.

That search led him to Hand of Giants. Meeting like-minded players and joining forces with them became a defining moment—fortuitous, transformative, and unlike anything he had experienced before.
